From Claims Handler to Business Manager: Amy Jenkins’ ERS journey

by Any Jenkins, Business Manager, Counter Fraud

Embarking on her professional journey straight from Swansea University, Amy Jenkins has been an integral part of ERS for eight years now, carving a remarkable trajectory within the organisation. From a Claims Handler in the Personal Injury department to a dynamic Business Manager in the Counter Fraud department, Amy’s journey exemplifies the vast career opportunities, support, and inclusive culture that define ERS.

Hailing from Maesteg and armed with a Law and History Degree from Swansea University, Amy Jenkins joined ERS directly upon completion of her studies. Her journey began as a Claims Handler in the Personal Injury department, showcasing her commitment to the field of insurance right from the start.

Career progression and leadership role

Amy’s dedication and leadership skills propelled her from a Claims Handler to a Team Leader within the Personal Injury department. In a testament to our commitment to internal growth, Amy transitioned to the role of Business Manager in the Counter Fraud department in September 2023.

According to Amy, the essence of ERS lies in its people, the foundation of lasting friendships, and the abundance of career opportunities, as she explained:

“ERS is not just a workplace; it’s a community of incredible people. The lasting friendships I’ve made here go beyond professional connections, creating an environment where collaboration and support thrive.”

Her experience working directly with department heads reflects the collaborative environment that allows individuals to contribute meaningfully to projects and decision-making processes.

The supportive ERS culture

Amy emphasises the value of coaching and mentoring programmes at ERS, providing less experienced individuals with insights from seasoned professionals. The open-plan office environment fosters accessibility, ensuring that senior staff members are always within reach, ready to guide and support the team. Amy explained:

“Career opportunities at ERS are boundless. Working directly with department heads allows me to contribute to meaningful projects and actively participate in decision-making processes, making each day fulfilling and impactful.

“The coaching and mentoring programmes at ERS are invaluable. They provide a platform for less experienced individuals to learn directly from more experienced employees, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.

“In the open-plan office environment, accessibility is key. Senior staff members are always approachable, creating a workplace culture where support and guidance are readily available.”

Access to learning resources

One of the standout features at ERS, as Amy highlights, is the opportunity to access a wealth of online training resources. From confidence boosting to specialised content for areas like Counter Fraud, ERS invests in the continuous development of our employees, aligning their growth with the company’s overall success.

“Access to online training resources is a game-changer at ERS. Whether it’s boosting confidence, building resilience, or diving into specific areas like Counter Fraud, the company’s commitment to employee development is evident.”

Empowering women in the workplace

Amy applauds our robust support system for women, valuing their skills and actively fostering an environment where they can thrive. The organisation’s commitment to empowering women is evident in our schemes that encourage skill utilisation and bring out the best in every female employee.

Community engagement

ERS extends its commitment beyond the workplace, engaging with the local community and schools in the South Wales region. Amy underscores the significance of initiatives like apprenticeships, typically available only in London, being accessible in Swansea. This inclusivity aligns with ERS’s broader vision of providing opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds, as Amy explained:

“Initiatives like apprenticeships in Swansea break down barriers, providing opportunities for young talent from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in insurance.”

High Performance Training

Amy shares her positive experience with the High Performance Training, a half-day programme held every four weeks over a six-month period. The training, designed to enhance skills and performance, reflects ERS’s commitment to investing in the continuous growth of our employees. Amy reflected:

“The High Performance Training at ERS has been an enriching experience. The investment in skill enhancement through programmes like these reflects the company’s dedication to elevating its employees to their highest potential.”

Amy Jenkins’s journey at ERS exemplifies our commitment to nurturing talent, providing diverse opportunities, and fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. Her story is a testament to the exceptional career development, learning resources, and community engagement initiatives that make us, here at ERS, a standout employer in both the South Wales region and the insurance industry generally.
